Attendance Matters! A missed school day is a lost opportunity for learning.
How to report an absence:
Call the school office (650) 624-3140 or email our office manager: ctrasmer@sbpsd.k12.ca.us Put Absence and the date in the subject line
You may leave a voice mail at any time, even at night or when the office is closed. We call home to check on students for all unreported absences. Thank you for helping our busy office staff by reporting absences before school starts.
How to request homework or missed work during an absence:
Call the school office (650) 624-3140 before 12:00 Noon on the day you would like to pick up make up work. Please understand that teachers are busy teaching class during the day, and may not have a break to prepare an absence packet until after school.
How to Request an Independent Study Contract:
If your child will be absent for 5 days or more for a reason other than illness, court appearance, or bereavement, you may request an Independent Study contract. Requests should be made at least two weeks in advance. Contact the school office at (650)624-3140.
What Parents Can Do:
Teach your student that good attendance matters. Students who miss a day of school not only miss instruction, but must make up work and catch up with the new material at the same time.
Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments in the beginning or end of the day so that your student will only miss ½ of a day of school or on Thursday afternoons when students are dismissed early. Bring students back to school after appointments.
Students will get coughs and colds during the winter, but it does not mean that they need to miss school. If your child does not have a fever, he or she should be in school.
Remember that there are 180 school days out of 365 total days in the year. Families are encouraged to take vacations during the eight weeks of summer vacation, two weeks near the holidays, or over the week break in the spring.
Keep in mind that patterns are formed early. It is more difficult to break a bad habit (children begging to stay home from school “just this once”) than saying “no” in the beginning.
